I am a writer of short stories and I had to create a story for Camp Hyrule
this year.
(See if you can figure out who its about before you reach the
end)
This was my submision:
She breathed heavily. The thumping of her heart beat tore thru her head like a freight train.
Aaaaaaaaah! The pain seared her arm. Run! Panic. Fear.
She dodged under some rocks. She could hear it scraping against the rocks. What was happening? She heard voices but couldn't understand what they were saying. Then her blood ran cold as she heard the sound of her father's voice.
"You'll never find it!" her father said in a ragged voice.
A raspy dark voice replied:
"Ha ha ha. You have led me right to it, fool. Before now you served a
purpose. Now…"
The sound would stay with her for many years, ever haunting the dark recesses of her nightmares. The shock hadn't even fully settled in when the scraping started again. The voices she could not understand had moved closer to her again. She looked for a way out. Having none, she simply huddled into a ball as far back as she could and tried not to cry. Sadness was soon replaced by an intense hatred for these things that had taken her father away. She wished she was older and stronger; strong enough to resist them and save her father. For now all she could do was hide and hope for her mother. Many hours passed before she dared to venture out.
The lights were gone. The facility seemed eerily quiet. She stepped into the hall that led to the dig and forced herself to move on. A chill went down her spine as she realized she was standing in a pool of blood. Nausea hit and she vomited. She did not see her father's body, but someone's arm was laying in the blood. She hated herself for being so weak. The flickering of the emergency lights and the smell of blood made her dizzy. She almost passed out several times on the way down the hall.
A scream awakened her thoughts and her new alertness gave her strength. She ran down the hall and came to the dig. She stood still on the edge of the crevasse and listened to the wind howl. No screams. Nothing but wind. After a short time she ventured down the side and into the bowels of the dig. She knew where her father believed was the inner chamber of this strange bird like race. He had told her that they had found a way to live in commune with nature, but for some strange reason no one could find them. He hoped that this lost settlement they had found would contain the answers.
The scream was so sudden that she could not help but to scream also. She grabbed her mouth and fled behind some crates in fear. Something was moving. She could hear it getting closer. Its breathing seemed to almost be in her ears. She curled into a ball. She felt it coming. She hated her weakness, she dared not even look. She wished she had a blanket to hide under…then it passed. What had it been? She cried that she had been too weak to even face her own possible death.
After a short time she regained her composure and tentatively walked deeper into the shaft. She could hear the strange voices. The seemed frustrated. She could hear the drills humming and whining. She knew they were pushing them too hard. She moved a little closer.
Only biting her tongue hard kept her from screaming when she slipped and landed in more blood, because as she looked up she realized she staring into the lifeless eyes of her mother. Terror set in as she realized that these things would kill her too. Suddenly she felt foolish for having pursued them. She needed to run, but as she lay there she felt the presence of the thing again. She froze. Maybe, oh please God let it pass, it would think she was already dead. She felt it pass over her. She dared not breathe. Suddenly a gust of wind went over her. The creatures lights went dead, almost as if they had been candles and not flash lights. The creatures screams were far worse than their talking. Soon the were running past her and on her in panic. Trying desperately to get away. One stepped on her leg and she heard a snap. The pain tore thru her. She bit her tongue so hard it bled. She knew it was broken. She tried not to squirm. Then it was quiet and dark. She could hear the breathing. It was over her. She couldn't stop her own labored breathing. Then blackness.
She vaguely remembered being lifted and the strange glowing light. She woke
up at a table strapped down.
"
Oh no, now they will torture me to see what I know" she thought.
But the creature that approached was not like the others. It was bird like
and had a kindness in its eyes, yet she felt she could see thru it. She cringed
as it put its hands…claws…on her leg. A sharp shooting pain then
nothing. It looked at her and spoke in a almost singing voice with a slight
sparkle that some how seemed ancient beyond years:
"
I am dying child. Do not worry the pirates have gone. I am the last corporeal
one of my race. We hope to rejoin those embodied but now is not the time.
I feel you can help us and we you."
The creature pointed to a strange round object on another table.
"Behold the strongest of weaponry the Chozo ever designed. It will even grow……"
The creature almost seemed to fade away. She got up from the table her leg
already seeming to be healed. She approached the ball and touched it. It
broke into pieces that swirled around her and suddenly became whole all over
her body. It was strong and included a weapon. Samus knew then that she never
needed to be afraid again.
